THE R FILES

ongoing since 2022

artistic research, video installation, listening stations

As part of her artistic research, Lis Schröder explores the ‘rolling R’ as a vocal stylistic device in German-language pop music.

Using found footage, expert interviews and her own textual, vocal and sonic experiments, she explores the complexity of the R sound, the history of its use and its reactionary as well as subversive potential.

The project was funded in 2025 by a grant from the onomato künstlerverein in Düsseldorf, where it was presented to the public for the first time.
